Stop multi-tasking in your 1:1s

It bothered me to no end.
I promised myself I would never treat my employees the way he treated me.
If you're always multitasking during your 1:1s, this email will help you regain your focus and start showing up like the best leaders do.
But first... Why is multitasking a bad idea?

A chronic multitasking manager sends unintentional signals to their employees.
β “This conversation isn’t important.”
β “This meeting isn’t important.”
β “Your time isn’t important.”
β “You're not important.”

One of the best ways to stop multitasking is by designing a distraction-free zone. This video (1:42) will show you how to create a distraction-free zone so you can be focused on your direct report.
Learning to stay in the present moment is a core leadership practice. If you want to start growing as a leader, you need to start cultivating this habit regularly.
